Avoid winter weight gain and other health traps!

 In Wellness

Winter, winter, winter… oh why do you make me want to curl up under a blanket with some nice warm comfort foods! Wow, so glad I am wearing tracksuit pants as I am not sure whether my summer shorts would fit me very well at the moment…

Does this sound like you?

Many people start to shy away from healthier habits during winter and recent research has suggested that some people may enter spring with an extra 5kgs!!! Think about it…

  • glasses of red wine by the fire
  • cooking up large portions of hot, steaming foods to warm you up
  • staying in bed that extra hour when the cold winds outside are blowing
  • having drinks with friends instead of going for a walk…

These small things cant make that much of a difference right? Wrong… our small changes in habits can make a huge difference when it comes to our weight and health at the end of winter.

So why not stay on top of things during winter so when spring comes, there shouldn’t be any nasty surprises when you go to put on your favourite summer dress or shorts.

Seeing a dietitian a couple of times over winter can ensure you stay on track, while still eating warming foods, catching up with friends etc.

And if you are worried about catching a cold or the flu, there are ways you can look to foods to help boost your immune system and stay healthy. Why not let your diet help keep you feeling fab this winter and avoid the common winter cold!

So book an appointment with one of our dietitians to make sure you are at your healthiest during this winter. Start spring off a couple of steps in front, instead of a couple behind!
