A quick weekend to Tasmania saw me pop my head into the temporary Qantas Hobart Lounge. Well it wasn’t really a lounge, it was a small roped off area with a fridge and a bench with a small selection of food and beverages. After showing my boarding pass to the staff member at the front of the roped off area I was allowed through to choose some food and drink. There are no seats or tables so you can take your food and beverages to the public seating areas.
So what was on offer in the temporary Qantas Hobart Lounge when I visited?
What’s nutritious in Qantas Hobart Lounge?
There were vanilla yogurt pots available in the fridge. I always like yogurt while travelling as it is high in protein and with slow-release carbohydrates (and of course its vitamins and minerals) however it would have been good to have a plain yogurt options in the fridge too for people who don’t want added sugar in their yogurt. There was also a bowl of apples available – great to have some fresh fruit available.

There were some cans of mineral water available however I couldn’t see any plain water – I really wanted a bottle of water. There were also some bottles of juice.
Not so great. Caution.
While I love sandwiches, I found the variety of sandwiches a little wanting. It would have been good to have some sandwiches with vegetables. While I understand not everyone loves salad in the fillings but to offer an option for people who do want a more nutritious sandwich would have been great. There was an egg sandwich which had a small amount of what I think was baby spinach but there wasn’t much in there – a few leaves at most in the sandwich I had. The sandwich varieties I saw were cheese and chicken, cheese and ham, and egg and spinach.

I love an egg sandwich however this one was a bit disappointing as there wasn’t much filling and the filling that was there wasn’t spread over all of the bread and so I found some of the sandwich a bit dry.

There were also a muesli bar, two types of slices (a rocky road and cookies and cream variety), and a fig and cranberry cookie – all individually packaged.

Final word on the temporary Qantas Hobart Lounge Food
I wasn’t expecting much from the temporary Qantas Hobart Lounge. I think it is good they have implemented an option for their passengers. But I guess I was hoping for just a little more than what I experienced. The basics were covered but it would have been good to have a salad, vegetable sticks, cheese or crackers or some sandwiches with more filling – just a little glowup for the food. I know this is a temporary lounge and some would say we are lucky there is something on offer and I do agree with this. But I kind of felt if all this effort has been taken to offer a temporary lounge then it could have offered a little more. I look forward to visiting the renovated Qantas Hobart lounge when it opens in 2027.
NOTE: All pictures of the temporary Qantas Hobart Lounge are my own and I review the food from the foods available at the time I visited the lounge. There may be different options available at other times.
