I explored the Qatar Al Mourjan Business Lounge Doha food while travelling Qatar Airways business class from Melbourne to Hamburg. While I am a Oneworld emerald tiered frequent flyer, Oneworld frequent flyers know that Qatar lounges are based around travel class rather frequent flyer status. So I could not access the first class lounge in Doha, but I could access their business class lounges through my ticket (which have a great reputation so I was looking forward to experiencing them). A side note: there is a frequent flyer lounge that tiered Oneworld frequent flyers can access but this is separate to the business class lounges and due to the limited time I had in transit I didn’t get a chance to visit.
There were two dining areas in the Al Mourjan Business Lounge South. There was a dining restaurant upstairs which had a buffet and a la carte menu, and at the other end of the lounge there was a smaller dining area (I believe it was called the Deli) with a small buffet and à la carte ordering which had sandwiches and salads etc. When I arrived at 7am to the restaurant dining area it was busy! When I walked in and staff weren’t very helpful in providing guidance on whether to just take a seat or wait to be seated. After waiting a while for attention from the staff and not getting anywhere I walked through the lounge to find a seat myself. After only finding a seat at the bar I ended up exploring the foods on the buffet rather than the à la carte menu as I didn’t have much time.

What’s nutritious?
The first food I noticed was the small bowls of hummus – amazing for breakfast. Hummus is made from chickpeas and sesame seeds (tahini) which are a source of plant protein and fibre (not to mention a variety of vitamins, minerals and bioactives). There were also small bowls of Arabic pickles. Mind the sodium though – some pickles can be a source of salt.

Look at these bowls of beautiful olives – such a nutritious snack full of beneficial fats and bioactive compounds such as biophenols. Olives can be salty though so be mindful not to eat too many other foods high in salt before jumping on your plane.

Small bowls of bircher muesli, Greek yogurt and labneh were available from the buffet. Bircher muesli is a well balanced dish packed with fibre, protein, vitamins and minerals, and bioactives from oats, nuts, seeds, yogurt, and fruit. Oats are a source of soluble fibre which can contribute to gut health while travelling.

Fruit and cheese platters were also available during the early morning buffet. These are great options for snacking or for having a lighter meal.

Vegetables! It was great to see them available on both the cold and hot buffets. There were sauteed mushrooms on the hot buffet, along with a variety of chopped vegetables for adding to dishes. There were also bowls of salad vegetables including cherry tomatoes, lettuce, cucumber and olives available to make up up a salad how you like. The omelette had tomato listed in the ingredients, and a number of the à la carte breakfast dishes had vegetables included in the description (even though I did not have time to order one as the lounge was very busy).

The omelette was one of the nicest ones I have had in an airport lounge – especially when from a buffet. It had that lovely seared egg flavour, texture and colour (hmmm am I explaining myself well? Basically it just tasted like it had come straight from a cooking pan and not pre-cooked and warmed up). It was not too cheesy or oily either – absolutely perfect! A bit more tomato would have been welcomed.

There were two legume based dishes: foul medames and sambar on the hot buffet.

Love the little as a fruit bowl I found on the buffet in the Deli. A perfect size for a refreshing light snack before boarding my next flight.

I love this bread display on the buffet in the restaurant. A dark brown multigrain loaf was on offer, along with sour dough and a wholemeal bread. Having higher fibre breads available for passengers is great to help support gut health while travelling.

Not so great. Caution.
The stir-fried noodles with vegetables did not have much taste, nor vegetables for that matter.

There were different types of processed meats such as sausages and beef salami. Processed meats can contain high levels of sodium, saturated fats, and preservatives like nitrates, which have been linked to health risks. If you enjoy these meats then try choosing one or the other (not both) with your breakfast. I did try a bite of the chicken sausage to see whether it was a good sausage and I have to say it was pretty good. It had herbs which gave it a nice flavour. It wasn’t too greasy either.

Sweet pastries and croissants were also on offer. These types of pastries are typically high in energy, as they’re made from multiple layers of dough combined with fats like butter. While butter is the traditional choice, mass-produced or prepackaged varieties are sometimes made with cheaper alternatives, such as hydrogenated oils. If you enjoy pastries, it’s best to choose them when they’re of excellent quality and take the time to truly enjoy them.

Final word on Qatar Al Mourjan Business Lounge Doha food
Overall a gorgeous lounge! Good thing I’ve already booked another flight through Doha in 2026, as I found myself wishing I’d had more time to explore the Qatar Al Mourjan Business Lounge food (especially the à la carte menus). It felt like Qatar was actually was trying to provide a great lounge experience for passengers and not just ticking a box. Unfortunately so many airline lounges these days are being degraded with appalling food, but I did not get that feeling in this lounge. It was such a refreshing experience. I loved the individual portions of foods on the buffet and the staff assisting with serving at the hot buffet were really helpful – it was a nice service touch. I thought the two dining areas with different menus was great and I look forward to trying some of the sandwiches in the Deli next time too (as sandwiches are usually woeful while travelling – so love to see the standards in this lounge). After a long flight, and with another long flight ahead, I was very happy there were nutritious foods available. Breakfast can be quite hit and miss in many lounges when it comes to nutrition, but Qatar nailed it.
NOTE: All pictures of the Qatar Al Mourjan Business Lounge Doha food are my own and I review a lounge from the foods and menu I see during my visit. There may be different options available at other times.
