A quick one hour flight from Kuala Lumpur to Singapore allowed me to experience Malaysia Airlines Business Class food on a short haul flight having just had a lovely 10 hour flight in business class on Malaysia Airlines from Australia. I had no idea what to expect to be honest – how much emphasis would be on catering would such a short flight? Having been on short haul business flights on a range of carriers around the world I have experienced everything from bags of prepackaged snacks to hot dishes. And my experience of Malaysia Airlines Business Class food on a short flight was somewhere in between.
Main meal service
Before take off water, orange juice and apple juice were offered. Just after takeoff business class passengers were asked if they would like a sandwich or curry. Since it was a 5pm flight and I chose the sandwich as I wasn’t very hungry and I had just come off a long flight from Australia. The sandwich was a small chicken roll and was served with a packet of peanuts and small square of chocolate. I wish I had placed my hand in the photo to highlight the size of this roll as it is quite small (you can see the water glass in the background). The chicken mix had some carrot pieces and a sauce (which I couldn’t quite pick the flavour). The bread was pretty dry. The sandwich came with a cherry tomato, gherkin and olive on top.

Nutrition comment
There was a decent amount of chicken filling in the roll which was the first thing I noticed. I have had sandwiches and rolls on board flights previously where it is like spot the chicken. Having a proportional amount of chicken here is good as it provides a source of protein. The carrot was an important addition to add some vegetables and flavour, however it was estimated to be less than 1 serve of vegetables for this sandwich (even with the tomato/gherkin/olive garnish on top).
Final word Malaysia Airlines Business Class food Kuala Lumpur to Singapore
Malaysia Airlines business class food on a short haul flight was adequate – it didn’t shine but it was ok. For a short one hour flight I wouldn’t be specifically paying for business class for the food though.
NOTE: All pictures of Malaysia Airlines Business Class food were taken while flying and are my own and I review the food from the menu I was given and the food I ordered on my flight. There may be different options available at other times.
A review of the Malaysia Airlines Golden Lounge in Kuala Lumpur is coming soon.
