I had heard good experiences of the Amex Centurion Lounge Dallas Fort Worth food and so when I was in Dallas I just had to try it. The lounge had a sign mentioning the menu was designed by Executive Chef Dean Fearing, a leader in southwestern cuisine. As someone who loves southern USA food I was very interested in the food concepts for this lounge. The Amex Centurion Lounge is situated in Terminal D in Dallas Fort Worth Airport.

What’s Healthy?
- Fresh fruit and yogurt – what a lovely sight! Blackberries, strawberries. pineapple and blueberries were available in abundance alongside Greek yogurt. With barriers set up to help guide lines that form at the buffet it was great to see fresh fruit have a starring role with large plates of cut up fruit a standout. Along with chopped fresh fruit, there was also bowls of dried fruits available including cranberries. Dried fruits are a bit hit and miss in terms of whether they are healthy – some dried fruits are great and literally the fruit dried, however others can have added sugar and fat. I treat them as a little nutrition boost – don’t have large portions and don’t rely on them to be your fruit for the day. But if a teaspoon helps to sweeten, say a bowl of oatmeal, they can be a nice addition. Bowls of whole fresh fruits were also available with pears and apples the fruits on display the morning I visited.

- The eggs! I love that they weren’t just serving plain scrambled eggs as every lounge buffet around the world seems to offer. Here in the Amex Centurion Lounge Dallas Fort Worth there were a couple of egg dishes served that were quite flavoursome; a Southwest Migas and a Goast cheese frittata. And not only did they have flavour but the goats cheese frittata had vegetables (mushrooms and spinach) – fantastic! Migas (on the left) had pico and corn tortilla chips added. It would have been better if there were more vegetables in each dish.

- Granolas can be hit and miss in terms of how good they are for you. It all comes down to the amounts of added sugars and fats that are used to give it that lovely crunchy texture, and taste. But the base ingredients are quite balanced for breakfast – oats, nuts and sometimes dried fruits. This granola had nuts and pepitas, along with the oats which provides a good mix of fibre, healthy fats and plant protein.

- This is not a great picture I know – the buffet was busy and so I was trying to take photos around people and not disturb them while they were making their food choices. But the photo below shows strawberry oatmeal on the right. Great to see an oatmeal available – oats are a source of soluble fibre which is great for gut health while travelling. Not sure what the strawberry flavouring was – sometimes oatmeal can be sweetened with sugar and flavours. So try the oatmeal first before adding any additional flavours – you might find the strawberry flavour enough to have it how you like it.

- It was hard to place the Crispy skillet potatoes – essentially they are fried potatoes and so have a chance they are quite high in fat and energy. But they were served with cilantro (coriander) and bell peppers (capsicums) which is why is a great way of encouraging eating more vegetables (and making vegetables delicious). It would have been good to see a higher ratio of bell peppers to potato. The homemade salsa was delicious!

Not so great. Caution.
- Sausages and sausage links were both available on the buffet. The sausages were chicken and apple flavour and the sausage links were pork. While sausages can be delicious, and it is great to see a creative flavour such as chicken and apple, they are still a processed meat which can have salt, preservatives and other additives in them. Consuming these types of meats regularly may contribute some diet related diseases. Now it is not saying you can’t ever have them, but if you fly lots don’t have them every time you fly. Choose them only sometimes and only if you actually like the flavour and if they look nice. Some sausages are served barely cooked and don’t have a nice crunchier outside and are just a bit disappointing. When they look like this I usually avoid them.

- The French toast was served with what I think was creme fraiche and maple syrup. White bread with added sweet syrup can have quite a bit of refined carbohydrate which is not great to have just before flying as we are quite sedentary on the plane.

- The mixed berry pancakes did have some gorgeous colour to them with the strawberries, blackberries and blueberries sprinkled over the top. While the berries are beautiful little bursts of vitamins and antioxidants, pancakes are usually not very nutritious. And so I have called them out here to be cautious with them, especially if you only eat a plateful of pancakes covered in syrup and without any berries. If you love the look of these try having just a couple and add some extra berries from the fruit bar to them.

Final word Amex Centurion Lounge Dallas Fort Worth
The Amex Centurion Lounge in Dallas Fort Worth (Terminal D) was certainly worth a visit, being a nice option if you don’t have access to an airline lounge. With Terminal D catering to international flights you could certainly feel the food standard being higher than a typical American airport lounge, which was a delight. I keep my lounge standards low when flying within the USA so it was nice to be able to eat a fairly healthy breakfast meal within this lounge. I loved the southwest flavours coming through some of the dishes – makes for a nice change from the standard egg and bacon buffets in the USA.
NOTE: All pictures of the Amex Centurion Lounge Dallas-Fort Worth are my own and I review the food from the foods available at the time I visited the lounge. There may be different options available at other times.

AMEX Centurion Lounge Hong Kong Food and Nutrition Review (updated June 2023)
The AMEX Centurion Lounge in Hong Kong offers a range of dining options including healthy choices like salads and a cheese board, as well as less healthy options like sweets and processed snacks. Despite the availability of nutritious foods, there are many tempting unhealthy snacks, which may make it challenging to maintain a balanced diet, especially for tired travelers.
