Plaza Premium Lounge Singapore Food and Nutrition Review (breakfast)

The Plaza Premium Lounge Singapore T1 is available for people without airline lounge access to visit. I accessed this lounge via my trusty AMEX platinum charge card when I was transiting through Changi one morning to have have a look at the breakfast on offer. There was both a small buffet and A la carte menu where you could choose from three dishes. There was a chef behind the buffet who you could place your order with and they would plate it up in front of you.

What’s Healthy?

  • A small salad bar was available on the buffet with a variety of colourful vegetables. What was really great to see was the chickpeas, edemame beans and quinoa available as they are high in fibre and plant protein. Adding a spoonful or two of these to your salad is not only delicious but can be beneficial for gut health while travelling too. Just be careful, if you are prone to IBS or bloating then don’t load your plate up too high with chickpeas or edamame.

  • A bowl of fresh apples was available – fresh fruit is always important to have available for people to have incase they want a light, fresh snack. Fruit in general is a source of vitamins and bioactives which are important for health.

Apples galore!

  • There were scrambled eggs on the buffet but they were really wet and sitting in big puddle. They tasted ok but had an oily mouthfeel.

  • The Laksa was served immediately after ordering with the chef. It was basically a whole bowl of noodles and came with 2 slices of tofu and a few slices of some form of seafood (to be honest I wasn’t actually sure what it was as I don’t usually eat laksa as I don’t like spicy foods). For me this laksa was spicy, however I think to most people who like laksa it probably wasn’t.

Not so great. Caution.

  • Chicken ham was available in slices on the cold buffet. While chicken ham is made from chicken, not pork, it doesn’t necessarily mean it is any healthier. It is still a processed meat and so likely to have additives in it such as salt which if consumed regularly is not great for health. There was also sausages and chicken ham available on the hot buffet too – again these are both processed meats. This means the only meat options within the Plaza Premium Lounge Singapore for breakfast were processed meats which are not ideal.
  • There were also small pieces of cake for breakfast available on the cold buffet.

  • Fried vermicelli noodles were available on the hot buffet – the noodles were pretty dry.

  • There was toast for breakfast available with both white and wholemeal bread available. Wholemeal bread is not necessarily unhealthy, in fact it can be nutritious. However for breakfast in this lounge the only spreads served with the bread were butter, jam and coconut jam which are not very nutrient dense. There were slices of cheese, scrambled eggs, tomato and lettuce available that could be used to make a sandwich (which are more nutritious) but for some people this might not be appealing for breakfast. If you like bread then consider adding these as toppings instead of a jam or butter if you fly regularly.

  • Corn based flakes and chocolate flakes were the two cereals available – pretty common cereals you find in lounges across the world. These types of cereals are usually low in fibre and can contain added sugars and salt.

Last word on Plaza Premium Lounge Singapore Food

The Plaza Premium Lounge Singapore T1 has a small buffet area serving food – it does not have a large variety of food but it did have a mix of Singaporean and Western breakfast flavours. When I visited at 8.30am it was fairly busy but I could still find a table in the buffet area. If you do not have airline lounge access then this is an option but the small buffet may mean there may not be choices everyone likes. The salad buffet was a welcome sight for breakfast – especially since Changi is such a large transit airport with people on all different time zones in the airport.

If you are considering other lounges in T1 at Changi which are non airline lounges then you may like to check out my review of the SATs Premier Lounge which had a larger variety of food on the buffet but no a la carte menu.

NOTE: All pictures of the Plaza Premium Lounge Singapore food are my own and I review a lounge from the foods and menu I see during my visit. There may be different options available at other times.

Plaza Premium Lounge Helsinki (non-schengen) Food and Nutrition Review (updated 2023)

The Plaza Premium Lounge in Helsinki offers a variety of dishes ordered through a QR code menu, including healthier versions of traditional meals like meatballs with roasted potatoes and various salads. While it features individual servings of snacks like cheese and salami, the lounge lacks colorful vegetables in many dishes and offers limited whole grain bread options.
