I was so looking forward to trying Fiji Airways Business Class food on their (fairly) new A350 from Sydney, Australia to Nadi, Fiji, because it has been 9 months since I had flown overseas as I recently added a new little frequent flyer to my family in May, and so I hadn’t been able to travel since I was 5 months pregnant. But now with my little 3 month old in tow, my partner and I set out on our first international trip with a baby on the very family friendly Fiji Airways. And their business class did not disappoint – I had a great flight and it was fab to be back in the air! The staff were so friendly, amazing with kids, and provided very attentive service. There was a main meal service served on the 3 hour flight, with snacks offered throughout the remainder of the flight. The food quality was great and I really enjoyed the meal. I enjoyed the food on the flight so much I would consider transit through Nadi to fly to the USA.
So let’s take a look at the Fiji Airways Business Class food.

Pre-meal Service
Before the main meal service, we were offered a pre-meal snack and drink. The snack was a savoury cheesy biscuit mix with pretzels.
Nutrition comment
This cheesy savoury snack might be tasty but isn’t very healthy. It is what us nutrition professionals call an ultra processed food, which basically means the food is highly processed and usually not very nutrient dense. These types of foods can be easy to overeat and don’t usually make us very full. So if you choose to eat these then have no more than 1 small handful. The snack was about a small handful and was served in a small bowl so this helped to manage portion sizes. Because the snack was served just before the main meal, and I had just eaten in the lounge, I wasn’t very hungry and so didn’t need the snack. I just tried a couple of pieces and that was enough for me so didn’t eat the rest.

Main Meal Service
The main meal service offered 3 courses, plus a side of bread, however the first course was more of a side salad which came out on the tray with the main and breads. To be fair the menu didn’t specify an entree but it was implied by the way the salad was listed as the first menu offering.
There were three choices available for mains (see below for menu) and a choice of two desserts. Choices of mains were:
- Southern Grilled Chicken
- Grilled Beef Tenderloin
- Vegetarian Stirfry with Udon Noodles
I chose the beef tenderloin which came with spatzle, vegetable ratatouille, zucchini batons and cassava chips. And I really enjoyed it! The ratatouille was delicious and the spatzle was light without any gluggy sauces which was good. The bus from the beef and ratatouille provided enough flavour and sauce for the spatzle. I also really enjoyed the dehydrated cassava chips as a nice touch of Fijian flavours. The side salad was a creamy slaw which was vegan.
Nutrition comment
The main meal of beef tenderloin was a balanced meal which which I loved – basically half the meal was vegetables with a small spoonful of spatzle noddles and a small piece of beef. Eating meals that follow the balanced plate model usually provide a good opportunity to get a fairly nutritious meal. It was great to be served a meal that was not predominantly cheap, refined carbohydrates. While the spatzle are a ,ow fibre, refined carbohydrate they didn’t make up most of the meal. So you got the delicious taste, but then more of the nutritious foods such as vegetables and beef.
The coleslaw had a lot of dressing on it which was disappointing as that overshadowed the health benefits from the cabbage and carrot. But the peptitas on the top was a nice nutritious addition. There was no choice of bread which was also disappointing as the two types of bread that came with the meal were quite light and fluffy which suggests they did not contain much fibre.

The grilled beef tenderloin looked overcooked however it was fairly tender and not too dry. There was enough jus for the tenderloin which also helped to make it not too dry.

The banana and French vanilla custard cake was really nicely presented with a dusting of chocolate powder. The slice of custard cake came with a berry coulis and what I liked was the coulis nicely complemented the cake on the side without overpowering it. I did find the cake had a very strong banana flavour (lol I know that was the name of the cake) but I found it was a slightly different type of banana flavour and if wasn’t really to my taste. But I think the quality of the dessert was good, it just wasn’t for me.

Snacks
Snacks were available after the main meal service such as small packets of Oreos and M&Ms.
