A Qantas Business Class Food review I was very keen to do – the Qantas’ ‘special’ Perth to Melbourne flight in business class which is essentially an international flight on a domestic route in Australia. What does this mean? I was flying London Heathrow to Melbourne on QF 10, transiting through Perth with the flight continuing on from Perth to Melbourne. The London to Perth flight (review here) was approximately 17 hours and there was about an hour transit time in their Perth International Lounge (review here) (which is in the domestic terminal). So what was the food like on this international flight, flying domestically in Australia? Was it different food to the normal Perth-Melbourne route? Let’s take a look at the food served on this flight.
Qantas Business Class Perth to Melbourne Menu (QF10 – the international flight domestically)
Main Meal Service
The main meal service began just after take off with the crew setting the table like it was an international business class flight, with a white table cloth, side of mixed leaves and slice of bread with butter. There was no starter served, only a choice of main meals and ‘something to finish’ – either cheese plate or an icecream.
Nutrition comment
The fish had way too much butter on it. I scrapped most of it off before it melted. While butter can give a lovely flavour there has to be a good balance regarding the amount – more is not necessarily better. Butter is high in fats and calories and while small amounts of butter can be good for improving the flavour of foods and doesn’t cause too much of a health concern, having too much for no reason isn’t healthy. If that is too much butter for you like it was for me, then take some of it off.
Last word on Qantas Business Class Food Review – Perth to Melbourne
It was good to get international service from Perth to Melbourne, otherwise it makes a bit of a joke of the ‘Australia non-stop to London’ message Qantas pushes. I would not like to have a normal domestic service to Perth for 3-4 hours from Melbourne, then a transit stop in Perth, and then head to London when I could have just got an international service all the way from London to say Melbourne or Sydney via Asia or the Middle East. Either via Perth or via Asia/Middle East to the east coast of Australia is still one stop. But sadly Qantas is looking to stop this flight and put everyone on normal domestic flights to Perth and then transfer to the international flight. But for this flight it was fairly decent business class service, serving decent food. I wasn’t wowed by the food though.
NOTE: All pictures of Qantas business class food Perth to Melbourne are my own and I review the food from the menu I was given, the menu on the website at the time and the food I ordered on my flight. There may be different options available at other times.
