Making my way back from Europe during one trip saw me end up on a Jetstar business class flight for the Singapore to Melbourne leg. The flight left from T4 at Changi and so I visited the Blossom Lounge before the flight. It had been over 10 years since I had flown them internationally and so it was about time I tried the Jetstar business class food. Many people are curious as to what the food is like in Jetstar business class – is it any good many ask?
Jetstar Business Class Food Review Singapore to Melbourne Menu
On this 7 hour flight (it ended up being just under 7 hours), leaving at 9pm they were serving a light meal and breakfast.

Main Meal Service
Before takeoff the cabin crew served refreshments including a sparkling wine. Shortly after takeoff the main meal service began with cabin crew serving drinks. The meals arrived not long after takeoff and were served as a one tray meal service (all food was served at once on the same tray). The meal was not served with any sides other than a slice of bread. There was a small boxed carrot cake served with the main meal which was the dessert. The bread was chewy and slightly dense which was lovely. Unfortunately the creamy sauce in the gnocchi dish was fairly tasteless (couldn’t taste much pesto), as was the gnocchi (and gluggy too). The pumpkin was good – steamed lightly and not too overcooked and neither was the spinach was also not too overcooked. Basically the only flavours in the dish were coming from the vegetables so it was good they were not overcooked.

Nutrition comment
The first thing that grabbed my attention when I was served the main meal was the bread was a slice of seeded sourdough bread. This was a great side for the main as seeded breads that contain wholegrains and seeds are generally more nutritious and contain some fibre. This is important for travel wellbeing especially on late night flights. There was about 1.5 serves of vegetables (diced pumpkin and spinach) in the main meal which was a start, however it would been better if a side salad or side dish with vegetables was also served. It was good to see the pumpkin and spinach taking a little more of a starring role in the gnocchi dish than a garnish which is seen on some flights.
Second meal service
The second meal service was served about 1.5 hours before landing and again was all served on the one tray. I chose the omelet which came with potatoes, sausages and a cherry tomato. This meal was disappointing as the menu described the meal coming with Roma tomatoes which it didn’t as only one small cherry tomato was served. The menu also described the meal as coming with potato rosti but was served with chunks of potato. The sausages looked quite anemic and while yes they were chicken sausages and so could be expected to be pale, they were quite soggy and tasteless. The omelette tasted ok.

Nutrition comment
It was disappointing to see one cherry tomato served in the breakfast dish when the description mentioned Roma tomatoes. The one small cherry tomato was like a garnish, not a component of the dish and didn’t really add much nutritionally. Tomatoes are sources of nutrients and bioactives such as vitamin C, beta carotene and lycopene which are both great for health and so having more for breakfast would have been a good opportunity for travel wellness. Additionally a fruit salad would have been a more nutritious choice to serve instead of a cake for breakfast. Again fabulous to see seeded sourdough bread served on the side – better than a white roll or croissant!
Final words Jetstar Business Class Food Review Singapore to Melbourne
Jetstar Business class food was a premium economy experience, and even an old-school economy meal experience from back in the day when economy meals were better than they are now. While this is a low cost carrier it is still supposed to be a ‘business class’ (i.e. the best class on the plane) and while the food is not expected to be like the full service carriers I did think it a bit cheap to call it ‘supper’ and not to serve a small side dish with the main meal (it’s not like it was a midnight departure). I was transiting from another flight and did not have time to have dinner before boarding as I am sure others would have been connecting since Singapore is such a large transit hub. So overall the food experience was ok for ‘business class’ – nothing outstanding and certainly nothing like business class on a full service carrier. As long as you go into the flight without a ‘business class’ expectation for the food and just be happy to get complimentary food then it will probably be ok.
